Dear Putnam Middle School Families,

On Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at approximately 1:30 p.m. all of Putnam Public Schools will be practicing a lockdown drill.  The purpose of this drill is to prepare our students and staff for any emergency that may occur, making it necessary for us to lockdown classrooms and/or the entire building.

Your student will ALWAYS be notified in advance of a lockdown drill. It is critical for students to cooperate and take this drill seriously, as if it were an actual emergency. Students will be notified of the upcoming drill in their classes, and given additional information by their teachers. They will be given the opportunity to ask any questions they may have in advance, and are expected to follow their teachers’ instructions during the drill.

Please encourage your child to stay calm and follow the procedures during any lockdown event, much like during a practice fire drill.

Students will be encouraged to speak with you, their parent or guardian, about these drills. If you have questions or concerns about lockdown drills or safety procedures, please contact me at 860-963-6920.

**Please note that our school will be closed for a short time during this drill, including the main office, so that our staff and students can practice these safety procedures. Telephones will not be answered during this time, and students will not be able
