Rated one of CONNCAN's Top Ten Most Improved High Schools in Connecticut for 2009-2010

 Dear Students and Parents,

As we begin the 2012-2013 school year, it gives me great pleasure, on behalf of the faculty and staff, to welcome you to Putnam High School and wish you good luck for the coming year.

Please take the time to review the new 2012-2013 student handbook. This handbook is designed to assist you in understanding the policies and procedures of Putnam High School.  Reviewing the handbook, you will notice some of the policies have changed in connection with Putnam High School's (PBIS) Positive Behavior Intervention and Support initiative.  PBIS is an all-encompassing system of behavior management where all students in the Putnam High School community are accountable with support to behave in ways that positively affect them personally, academically, socially, and from a health perspective.  PBIS is designed to positively affect not only the student behavior, but also student quality of life.  The three systems of support that are part of PBIS are Primary (Schoolwide), Secondary (Classroom), and Tertiary (Individual).

We are pledging our full support in helping you achieve your goals and as our school mission states, we hope to provide you with a learning environment which encourages respect, responsibility, community and integrity.  Your commitment, dedication, and desire to be a learner is vital to helping us achieve our mission.

As with all things in life, your experience at Putnam High is what you make of it.  I encourage you to participate in extra-curricular activities, athletics, and community events.  These are elements that may seem small, but they help open doors and create opportunities for you after high school.

High school is intended to be a tremendous growth experience for uou and a time that you can reflect on in later years with pleasure.  Your personal growth will be greatly enhanced if you become involved in a variety of school activities and get to know the people of PHS.  Without a doubt, the students, faculty, and staff are our greatest resource, and each of us needs to make an effort to support each other.

Putnam High School is a school rich in tradition with an outstanding reputation for success.   Help add to that tradition, and take full advantage of everything PHS has to offer.  It is great to be a Clipper!

With Putnam Pride,

Mr. Joseph Ptaszynski, Principal

Putnam High School
